— About Our Fund —

The Conservation Genetics Fund supports the Genomic Variation Laboratory (GVL) at UC Davis. We train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students to apply cutting edge molecular techniques to answer questions that directly inform the management and conservation of North America’s fish and wildlife. We work closely with natural resource managers and conservation practitioners to identify and answer questions that are most impactful for species management, which also provides students the opportunity to collaborate with scientists in a variety of roles. Your support not only bolsters our research capacity but also allows us to provide additional financial support to our students. We aim to provide paid internships for undergraduate students so that access to experiential learning is not limited by an individual’s financial circumstances. We also aim to send graduate and postdoctoral students to at least one conference a year, so they can present their work to the scientific community and begin developing the professional networks necessary for advancing in their careers. Together, we can protect our fragile fish and wildlife populations by conducting rigorous and timely research while training the next generation of conservation researchers and practitioners.
